installing on windows

“Windows protected your PC”? That's expected.

errorboard is a brand-new app and isn't code-signed yet, so Microsoft Defender SmartScreen shows a caution screen the first time you run it. It's safe to continue.

  1. Click More info on the SmartScreen dialog.
  2. Click Run anyway.

The download is served over HTTPS from errorboard.com and your logs never leave your machine. Code signing is on the way and will remove this prompt.

getting started

Four steps to your first log

Download & run

Grab errorboard.exe above and run it. If Windows SmartScreen appears, follow the note above (More info, then Run anyway). No installer — it drops straight into your system tray.

Set up in seconds

A short wizard opens on first launch: pick the apps you study in and name your first topic. You can change these any time from the tray.

Capture as you study

Press Capture now or the ctrl+alt+m hotkey and a screenshot of your current window lands in <topic>_errors.docx in your Documents folder. Free, no account.

Add Pro for the AI (optional)

Sign in on the Account tab with errorboard Pro and every capture is marked for you — what went wrong and the correct approach, written beneath the screenshot, and synced across your devices.

questions

Good to know

Is errorboard really free?
Yes. Download it and capture screenshots of your work into per-topic Word logs with no account and no time limit. Pro is an optional upgrade that adds the AI: it marks each capture and explains the correct approach, and syncs your logs across devices.
Does errorboard record everything on my screen?
No. It only captures the window you're in, and only when you press Capture or its hotkey. Nothing is captured in the background — email, chat and the desktop are never touched.
Where does my data go?
On the free tier, nothing leaves your machine — captures are plain Word files in your Documents folder. With Pro, a captured frame is sent to the cloud only to mark it and is never stored; your logs then sync to your account so you can study across devices.
What does Pro add?
The AI. On a Pro capture a vision model reads the frame and writes what went wrong and the correct approach beneath the screenshot — a visible academic error like a wrong answer, a bad calculation, a flawed step or a bug in code. Free captures save the screenshot without the analysis.
Will it slow down my computer?
It is light. You start each capture with a button or a hotkey. It lives in the system tray with no visible window, so an idle screen costs nothing.
Which platforms are supported?
The desktop app is Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit). The notebook and studio run in any modern browser, including iPad with Apple Pencil.
